Bett, Kimeli finish second at Gateshead, the Diamond League opener

Former world under 20 3,000m steeplechase champion Leonard Bett and Africa cross country junior champion Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli finished second in their races at the Gateshead, the Diamond League opener today in England.

Bett finished second behind USA’s Hillary Bor in 3,000m steeplechase as Bedrani Djilali from France completed the podium.

Bor won in 8:30.20 with Bett coming second timing 8:31.52 while Djilali was third in 8:32.04. it was disappointing for Commonwealth Games 3,000m steeplechase silver medalist Abraham Kibiwott who finished a distance 7th in 8:35.14.

Kimeli on the other hand was second in 5,000m finishing behind Spaniard Mohamed Katir (13:08.52) as Kimeli whoc clocked 13:10.11 edged out compatriot Michael Bett in 13:20.52 before Jacob Krop came a distance 7th in 13:24.64.

In 1,500m, Kenya’s Brimin Kiprotich Kiprono finished in 12th position timing 3:52.63 in a race won by Norweaign Jakob Ingebrigtsen (3:26.27) followed by Australia’s Oliver Hoare (3:36.58) and fellow country mate Stewart McSweyn completed the podium in 3:37.32.
