Road to win medals at the Africa Zone 3 has began in earnest when the Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) hired two coaches to guide the team.
Hassan Salim and Maurice Maina will be joining the Hit squad, the national boxing team made up of 16 member Squad will be chasing medals at the championships set for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Coming from Kibera Club and Kenya Prisons respectively, Salim and Maina will be joining head coach Musa Benjamin, assistant Dave Munuhe, Patrick Waweru and strength and conditioning coach Geoffrey Kimani to complete the coaching unit.
The Hit Squad have been in camp since late last year after the government allowed national teams to prepare for international assignments following months of inactivity in sports occasioned by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
The federation further revealed it was in talks with the government to discuss the possibility of allowing the boxing leagues to resume behind closed doors.
