Abraham Mutai, the Athletics Kenya Central Rift chairman is a man siege following his suspension from duties by the region’s executive committee members.
With Mutai under suspension, Vice Chairman Joseph Boit has taken over on interim basis until the federation’s main office in Nairobi makes a final determination on the matter.
Today, the 15 members that constitute Central Rift- Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Baringo- converged in Eldoret to suspend their chairman in what they called long-week consultations over the alleged abuse of office and gross conduct that cause damage to the federation.
In a statement ready by Secretary Kennedy Tanui, he said that all the 15 members agreed uninoumously that Mutai abused the privileges as the chairman to engage in negative activities.
“We have deliberated that Mutai remains suspended due to the abuse of office as well as portraying the federation negatively,” read Tanui.
He alleged that the members made the deliberate move for their voices to be heard louder hence the decision.
He continued that the chairman’s alleged association with groups that have been propagating negativity against Athletics Kenya will be left to the national office to handle.
