Bor, Jelagat top Re-Discover Nandi 10km

Eldoret City marathon bronze medalist Emmanuel Bor and Boulogne Half Marathon champion Nancy Jelagat were crowned the champions of the 11th edition of Re-Discover Nandi 10km road.

The Sunday race in Kapsabet, Nandi County was the reliever for athletes who have been out of competition for a very long time due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bor, who trains long the course won the title in 28:21.19 ahead of Daniel Kiprotich (28:30.97) and Victor Rotich completing the podium timing 28:42.44.

“We have stayed home for long, accumulating many debts in the nearest shops but with such races, we are coming back strongly. My shopkeeper understood what I was going though and life of an athlete and till now I have not completed paying,” said Bor.

About the race, he said that the win was good because he will use the money to pay many debt arrears.

“My pastor has been praying for me and advising me that this year, I will run well and through his prayers I have done well across the board,” he said.

Jelagat, who missed to cut into the Kenya Team for Olympic Games in 10,000m defeated Daisy Cherotich, the reigning Discovery Kenya Cross country champion.

Jelagat, who finished 4th at the national championships cum national trials for the Olympic Games said the course was so hilly but she took the advantage of her training base in the Iten Forest to tackle the hill for the title.

She clocked 31:30 ahead of Cherotich’s 31:38 and Naomi Chepng’eno coming third timing 32:11.

“The race was very competitive and on a hilly course but since I always train on a hilly course back in Iten, it prepared so well for such an event,” said Jelagat, the Tecla Loroupe Peace 10km champion.

“I have been training that is why I have managed to win this race. Even if I lost the Olympics team, I have hope for better things ahead of me. Yes I was 4th at the Olympic trials in 10,000m hence missing team Kenya slot and that led me to this particular event,” added Jelagat.
