Little known Mwira Girls and Bukembe Boys have been crowned the champions of soccer at the concluded Western Region Secondary Sports Association held in Kakamega, County.
Coming from kakamega county, Mwira defeated nangili 2-0 to sail to the nationals with goals coming from goalkeeper Vivian Shiyonzo and captain Charity Huku.
Shiyonzo converted from the spot to give the champions 1-0 lead before Huku doubled the score in the 57th and 76th minute to give Rajab Juma coached tam a ticket to the nationals.
Juma said that the girls put a spirited effort to win after the match and they are going to make sure they train harder ahead of the nationals which kicks off next week in Nakuru County.
“It was a tough game but we are happy the girls managed to play well and earned two goals against our opponents. We need to work extra hard because we are going to meet with stubborn teams at the nationals but our target is to also bag victory,” said Juma.
In the boys’ soccer, Bukembe High School beat Ebwali High School from Vihiga County 7-6 in post-match spot kicks after a barren draw in normal and extra time play
