Cameroon end unbeaten run for Junior Starlets in Africa Under 17 qualifiers

Tiwa Melong scored a solitary goal for Cameroon’s Baby Lionesses to beat Kenya’s Junior Starlets in the first leg of FIFA Under 17 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Nyayo stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.

The hosts lost the ground in the 30th minute, allowing Melong to head into the net past keeper Velma Abwire for a 0-1 win ahead of the return leg next weekend in Yaoundé, Cameroon with the winner booking the slot.

The Mildred Cheche coached team will be seeking to redeem their image in the return leg set for April 25 at the iconic Stade Olembe in Yaoundé. Kenya will need a win to keep their hopes alive of qualifying for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup for only the second time in history in Morocco from October 7 to November 8, 2025.
