Former Africa Boxing Championships lightweight champion Nicholas Okoth became the first Kenyan athlete to fall at the Olympic Games that kicked off yesterday in Tokyo, Japan.

The Hit squad captain, who won the Africa title in 2015 (60kg) was punched down in the featherweight bout (57kg) to Erdenebatyn Tsendbaatar of Mongolia in Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
Okoth was the best bet owing to his outstanding performance in the recent international championships, which in all of them he reached the medal bracket with the latest international tournament being Konstantin Korotkov Memorial International Boxing Championships in the city of Khabarovsk in Russia where he won a silver medal.
