Cassidy win silver as Africa Youth Chess Championships end

Making her maiden appearance at the Africa Youth Chess Championships, Kenya’s Elizabeth Cassidy Maina won silver at the concluded Championships.

With the games coming to an end, the Kitale School pupil won silver medal in the Girls Under 10 at the just when she drew her last game against South African Suresh Aradhy to obtain 6.5 and grab the silver medal.

Aaradhy, also had 6.5 points but with an inferior tie-break and was hence relegated to a bronze medal.

Another Kenyan Bernice Gikandi Wambui obtained a respectably 6 points to end up in joint 3rd place but 6th in the ranking with another Kenyan Elsie Kamoni Wambui earning 2 points.

The event, which ran from 19th to 25th September 2021, had over 140 players from twelve federations
