CHAN: Late Rakotondraibe, Rafanomezantsoa hand Madagascar victory over CAR

Substitutes Toky Rakotondraibe and Lalaina Rafanomezantsoa scored late when Madagascar defeated Central Africa Republic (CAR) at the African Nations Championships (CHAN) played today at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium in Tanzania.

In a pool B encounter, the island Madagascar won 2-0 with late goals to help them propel to third position won 4 points after a draw against Mauritania in the opening fixture played at the same venue.

It was a bad day for CAR who were celebrating the Independence Day  

With Burkina Faso facing Mauritania later in the evening, the result lifted Madagascar off the bottom of the group and kept their qualification hopes alive

Rakotondraibe scored in the 84th minute for a 1-0 lead before feeding Rafanomezantsoa to score the second for a 2-0 victory.

Later in the evening, Burkina Faso will take on Mauritania in another pool B encounter as the battle for survival and qualification hots up.
