CHAN: We will be ready tohost the championships-Peter Kaberia

Kenyan government through the ministry of Sports has insisted that the country will be ready to host the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN).

Despite the growing anxiety over Kenyan preparedness, even Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) postponed their visit to kenya, Sports Principal Secretary Peter Kaberia has confidence that Kenya will be hosting the continental showpiece.

On Thursday, Kabera assured Kenyans that football extravaganza will be staged in Kenya. Speaking during the unveiling of Kenya Airways as the official carrier for national sports team, Kaberia said Caf had so far given a thumbs up to the ongoing preparations ahead of the three-week football tournament.

With its 5th edition set for 2018 on Kenyan soil, it will kick off on January 12 even though none of the five stadiums earmarked to host the games meets the required threshold set by the tournament organisers.

Caf recently cancelled an inspection visit by its officials to the country, and instead dispatched its second vice president Constant Omari Selemani to the country for talks with Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario and Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa.

The move fuelled speculation about Kenya’s chances of hosting the bi-annual football bonanza.
