Former Africa under 20 5,000m silver medalist Sandra Chebet and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) athlete Vincent Mutai were the winners of today’s opening leg of Athletics Kenya cross country championships held at the Machakos People’s Park in Machakos County.
The 25 year has made her return into action on her way to compete at next year’s world cross country championships in Belgrade, Serbia and Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Representing National Police Service, she won the 10km senior women race in 34:02 6 ahead of her training mate Mercy Chepkorir at lemotit to second in 35.04.4 followed by Teresa Cherotich, 35.09.1 (Lemotit) and Monica Wanjiru, 35.25.0 (Vota)
In the senior men, Mutai won the title in 29.39.1 beating hosts Arthunus Kioko (29.42.2) and Brian Kiptoo 30.07.6 of Police.
