Chebet wins double as Track and Field kicks off

Gladys Chebet won double athletics titles at County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) games in Eldoret .

The Uasin Gishu runner won 800m before adding 1,500m title as Track and Field Championships kicked off at The Eldoret National Polytechnic on Thursday 3rd track.

In 800m, she won the title in 2:42.19 edging out Elgeyo Marakwet’s Eva Kimaiyo who clocked 2:47.60 and Doreen Gatwiri ended the podium timing 2:54.51.

She added her second title in the evening, winning 1,500m in 60:03.71 ahead of Makueni’s Lilian Mutua (6:30.31) and Brigid Kithewe (Makueni) in 6:33.99.

In 800m men, Embu’s Gabriel Ndikwa destroyed the field, winning in 2:23.66 ahead of hosts Ken Rotich (2:24.53) and Baringo’s Ezra Kurui (2:25.31).

Samburu’s Jacob Leroshon claimed men’s 1,500m title timing 4:37.67 beating Kajiado’s Isaiah Miseyeki (4:48.05) and Kelvin Ayeke (Vihiga) in 4:57.55.

In football men, defending champions and Kilifi won their matches to keep their hopes alive.

The hosts came from a goal down to stun Samburu 2-1. Joseph Lesipayo scored first for Samburu before Uasin Gishu’s Elvis Tarus levelled and David Buluk headed in the winner.

Kilifi ended Kiambu’s unbeaten run with a 3-0 thrashing with goals from speaker Jimmy Kahinda, Joshua Ojwang and Sydney Saro sealed the victory.
