Sylvia Chelangat and Kennedy Kimeu are the only hope for Kenya in 400m at the ongoing World under 20 athletics championships in Kasarani stadium on Wednesday.
But it was bad day for Elkanah Kiprotich Chemelil who failed to make the cut despite eunning his personal best in the one-lap race.

Kimeu, who failed to make to the second round in 4x400m mixed relays, was the only Kenyan to make it to finals after Chemeli, who was also part of the relay team failed to make the cut after finishing third in heat 2.
Kimeu qualified to the finals after posting 47.05 behind South African Lythe Pillay who carried a personal best of 45.53.
“Am happy that I have run with my personal best t these championships. It could have been bad if I could have failed to make the cut as the only Kenyan,” said Kimeu.

The same was shared by Chemelil who said despite losing to qualify, he has gained his personal best in the championships.
“It is very disappointing to miss in two races the same day. We lost as a team in 4x400m mixed relays and now in 400m, it is disappointing,” said Chemelil.
In the women race Chelangat posted a personal best of 53.49 to finish second behind Imaobong Nse UKO from Nigeria who pulled 52.33 to claim the first position in heat three.
“Today I ran my heart out and making it to the finals, expect a medal of any kind,” said Chelangat.
