Chepkemoi, Mwangi, Chelagat and Kageha shine at Kisumu weekend Meet

Caroline Chepkemoi and Peter Mwangi recorded first victories in day of the second leg of Athletics Kenya Track and field events at the Moi stadium in Kisumu.
After finishing 14th at the second edition of Sirikwa Classic Cross country Chepkemoi won the 10,000m women, the first track final event.
Returning into action after a maternity leave, the kericho based runner edged out Kenyan born turned Bahraini Roselinda Jepketer for the title.
Chepkemoi won the title in 35:30.3 with Kapsabet based Jepketer coming second timinmg 35:32.1 as Chepngetich Lagat completed the podium after timing 35:43.8.
The champion said that she will be aiming to represent the country at the Africa Games in Accra, Ghana in August.
“This is a good victory now that I am coming back on track after a long time. My focus will be to run for the country at the World championships as well as Africa games,” she said.

The same was shared with Jepketer who wants to represent her new found nation in Budapest, Hungary.

“I have started my season and I have to ensure that I do well,” she said after placing 4th at the Sirikwa Classic last Saturday.
In the field, Kenya Prisons Mwangi was victorious in shot putt by claiming the title.
Mwangi won the title after throwing 15.60m. he started with a 15.48m, followed by 15.59 and 15.59 in first throw. In the second throw, he managed 15.16, 15.15 and 15.60 to emerge top.
Kenya Defence Forces Alex Wachira was second with 14.61 as compatriot Fredrick Chumba was third in 14.09.
In shot put women, Nairobi based Linda kageha won the title after throwing 12.82m followed by KDF’s Saraha Atieno (12.50) and Maurine Akisa’s 11.61.

Winny Chelagat won the 400m hurdles in 64.6 followed closely by Valentine Okaya (64.6) and Gladys Ngure’s 55.3.
