World 3,000m steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech led her teammates to qualify for the second round at the world championships in Doha, Qatar.
The Diamond League winner won Heat 2 in 9:18.01 beating USA’s Courtney Frerichs in 9:18.42.
It was the second qualifier after two time world under 20 champion 3,000m steeplechase champion Celliphile Chespol (9:24.22) finished 3rd in Heat 1 to qualify in a race won by Ugandan Peruth Chemutai in 9:21.98, Emma Coburn of the US finished second in 9:23.40.
Former World champion Hyvin Kiyeng finished third in heat 1 timing 9:29.15 to qualify.
But it was a bad day in office for Africa champion Fancy Cherono who failed to make the cut after timing 9:32.34 to finish 4th
