Cherono to rabbit 5,000m at Ostrava Continental Tour

Former African Youth 1,500m silver medalist Eva Cherono will be leading the rabbits in tomorrow’s Ostrava Golden Spike, the World Athletics Continental Tour at the Mestsky stadium in Czech Republic.

Cherono, who has paced in many Diamond Leagues across the world will be pacing the 5,000m women’s race that will include top athletes like the two time world champion Hassan, who lowered the 18km world record on Friday during the Brussels Diamond League on Friday.

The Kericho born runner said she has experience in pacing after she did in the 2018 European 10,000m Cup and Welklasse Zurich final the same year.

“With such experience I know I will do my best to ensure that the athletes get good time on the course, the race has been attracting top runners and being the pace-setter, I know they will do well,” said Cherono.

She said that she was handed the pacing job by her manager after her race in Brussels, which she describes as the most hard race ever, covering a longer distance on track.

“It was not bad. By the way, it was not easy lapping for one hour. But it was a good experience since I did not know that I can run for such a long time, also not knowing that I can come home with that distance,” said Cherono, who finished 7th at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Cherono missed podium position at the 2015 Africa Junior championships running home in 4th position before graduating to seniors, winning Singelloop Utrecht race and finished 8th at the 2019 world cross country championships.

“Heading to Ostrava, it will also depend on the pace I will be given since I have been pacing in many Diamond Leagues hence having great skills in pacesetting,” concluded Cherono.
