Former Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion Mercy Cherono was been crowned the champion of Corrida Pedestre Internationale de Houilles 10km Road Race held yesterday in Houilles, France.
The 31 year-old who missed the course record of 30:32 set by her compatriot Kenyan born turned Kazakhstan international Norah Jeruto in 2019 by 24 seconds, faced no stiff challenge as she ran solo for the entire race to cut the tape in a new personal best of 30:55 and was followed by Ethiopia’s Mestawut Truneh in 31:45 with France’s Sara Benfares closing the podium three finishes in 31:45
The 2016 European 5000m bronze medallist, Sara Twell and Kidsan Alema from Ethiopia came home in fourth and fifth place in a time of 32:14 and 32:59 respectively..
