Daisy Cherotich registered her maiden win at the Discovery Kenya cross country as All Africa Games 5,000m champion Robert Kiprop topped the men’s race.
Coming from Elgeyo Marakwet County, Kiprop admitted that he was sure that world 10km record holder and world under 20 champion was the favourite as well as commonwealth Games 10,000m bronze medalist Rodgers Kwemoi and Africa cross country junior champion Nicholas Kimeli.
Kiprop who stayed in the leading park for long broke away in the 8km to open a 100m gap to win the title in 30:17.8 to relegate defending champion Kimeli to second and Kwemoi to third timing 30:20.8 and 30:25.3 respectively.
Nandi based Cherotich won the 10km senior women’s title beating experienced runners led by former Barcelona Marathon champion Valary Aiyabei, former Africa 1,500m junior champion Eva Cherono, Lilian Kasait among others.
She won the title in33:53.6 ahead of Cheron’s 34:01.9 and Eunice Chebichii’s 34:15.7 in that order
Kiprop won the said windy and sun conditions derailed their performance but the win was a consolation as part his preparing to conquer the African continent.

Africa Junior 3,000m champion Gideon Rono and Marion Jepchumba shine in 8km and 6km junior men and women respectively.
The duo said they are targeting Africa cross country titles once they make the Kenya team.
