World 1,500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot, former world 3,000m steeplechase champion Hyvin Kiyeng and world 800m bronze medalist Ferguson Rotich claimed victories at the Stockholm Diamond League series on Sunday night.
Cheruiyot, who missed to cut into the Kenya team at the Olympic Games, won the 1,500m title in 3:32.30 to beat Ignacio Fontes of Spain to second spot in 3:33.27 before world junior 1,500m record holder Ronald Kwemoi completing the podium after clocking 3:33.53.
Olympic bound Kiyeng for the third time in a row edged out world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech to win the 3,000m steeplechase title.
Kiyeng, the reigning Olympic Games 3,000m steeplechase silver medalist won the title in 9:04.34 after taking over from her pacesetter Fancy Cherono to lead through 2,000m and edge out Felicitas Krause from Germany to second place in a season’s best 9:09.13 before Chepkoech completing the podium in 9:10.52 with 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games 3,000m steeplechase champion Purity Kirui Chepkirui coming in 4th timing 9:16.91.
In the men’s 800m, Rotich clinched the title in 1:43.84 beating Marcos Arop of Canada who placed second in 1:44.00
