Commonwealth Games: Kenyan trio-Maximila Imali, Gladys Musyoki, Veronica Mutua storm in semifinal

Three Kenyans Maximila Imali, Gladys Musyoki and Veronica Mutua made it into the 400m semifinal to take place on Tuesday morning of the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast Australia.

The trio picked their qualification in their heats during the early Monday morning race  with Imali running to victory in her heat timing 51.74 beating Jamaica’s Tovea Jenkins.

Even after finishing fourth in her heat, Mutua was an automatic qualifier with 52.70 in a race won by Nigeria’s Yinka Ajayi but Musyoki was forced to wait until all the heats had concluded before earning a slot in the semis with her personal best time of 53:41 as the best loser.

Luck evaded Boniface Mweresa and Collins Omae in men’s 400m race after failing to qualify to the final.

On Sunday, Mweresa was lucky to run in the heats after he had a false start. On Monday, Omae (46:68) came in eighth in his semi heat as Mweresa finished sixth ( (47:39) with top two athletes from the three semis qualified plus the best two best third placed finishers.

Kenyan Beatrice Chepkoech and Mary Wangari made it to the final of women’s 1,500m as Winny Chebet faulted and failed to make the cut.

Chepkoech crossing the line in 4:08.29, Wangari in 4:96.58 personal best before Chebet who fell managed to rise and finish the race.
