Coronavirus cancels Africa Club volleyball championships

Africa Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) president Amri Elwani today announced the cancellation of African Volleyball Men’s and Women’s Club Championships due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Elwani said various travel limitations and restrictions in the continent, informed the decision to put the championships on hold that were set for Al Ahly Sporting Club that to be held in Cairo, Egypt.

The event was to be held from 31 March to 11 April 2020, with Women’s from 12 to 23 April 2020 – Men’s, respectively.

He said: “We acknowledge that this postponement may necessitate changes which some teams may have had in place. But as a volleyball family let us appreciate that the wellbeing and good heath of each member and particularly that of the athletes, is of paramount importance.”

“We thank you for your cooperation and wish each club and all our National Federations the best during this trying moment in our sporting history.”
