Former Boston marathon champion Wesley Korir has blasted the manner in which Rio Olympic Games were handled with people who lack sportsmanship.
Speaking in Muskut village, Keiyo South during the home welcome of two time London marathon champion Wilson Kipsang, Korir revisited the Rio Olympics fiasco saying athletes go through hardship processes to achieve what they have achieved but they are not appreciated at all as individuals stands to benefit from the innocent athletes and sports personality.
“We earn through our sweats and we deserve respect, it is sad that those at the helm of the ministry are not aware of the challenges we face because they have never undergone it, this time we need someone who has been in the field,” said Korir.
Korir called on the electorate to support sports persons vying elective positions come next General Election.
“Sports people across the world have always seen us as their heroes and they have rose from humble beginnings thus understand the challenges faced by the public. It will be prudent for the electorate to give most of our colleagues a chance to govern in various political seats,” he added.
Kipsang, who longs to unseat incumbent Jackson Kiptanui in Keiyo South, challenged athletes to advance their studies.
“As far as I am expressing my political ambitions, it is ideal for my fellow athletes to also go back to school such that as they retire from the profession, they will be well placed to seek other job opportunities,” he added.
