Dennis Saikwa will be hop0ing to defend his Uhuru Shield title, the penultimate of Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series on par 72 Royal Golf club ahead of the final Nyali Open Golf championships on Nyali Golf and Country club.
Playing on home club Sakiwa, who has not won any meeting across the country, will be facing a still competing from series leader Samuel Njoroge from Railways, second placed John Karichu of Limuru among others top amateurs seeking a single entry into 2019 Kenya Open Golf Championships.
Njoroge with 481.1 points leads Karichu with four points on 477.6 points, making it a tight race this year, which may be decided at the season’s grand finale at Nyali.
Njoroge won four events- Nyanza Open, Tea Fields trophy in Kericho, Karen Challenge and the Kenya Amateur Open Strokeplay Championship. The latter was good for the golfer who qualified Kenya Open.
His competitor Karichu won thrice- Sigona Bowl in January at Sigona, Trans Nzoia Open in Kitale and Kabete Open at Vet Lab.
KAGC defending champion Edwin Mudanyi with a score of 339.9 points will be chasing the title after winning Manchester Salver in Eldoret early this month.
But again, this will also depend on Njoroge and Karichu not making the top five positions at Royal and Nyali.
Njoroge and Daniel Nduva (who won the Match Play Championship title) have already qualified for 2019 Kenya Open.
Others on the title chase include Limuru Open and Railways Invitation winner Robinson Owitiwill lead Vet Lab golfers Mike Kisia who won Coronation Trophy in Nakuru, Isaiah Otuke and only deaf golfer Isaac Makokha.
Karichu will lead Limuru’s contingent of Paul Muchangi and John Kariuki, while from Railway, Njoroge be accompanied by John Lejirmah and George Felix.
