Kenya’s Titus Ekiru and Margaret Muriuki were the winners of the 2019 Honolulu marathon winners in a marathon dominated by Kenyans, taking top positions.
Ekiru defended his title leading top five Kenyans in 1-2-3-4-5 positions when he timed 2:07.57, bringing down the course record that was held by two-time winner Lawrence Cherono in 2017 at 2:08.27.
The 27-year-old runner led former winner Wilson Chebet to second position in 2:13:13 as compatriot Edwin Koech (2:14:19) completing the Kenyan sweep.
As men took the top five positions, Margaret Muriuki Wangare led a 1-2 podium with Betsy Saina in second place.
The 33-year-old Muriuki won on her marathon debut cut the tape in 2:31:09 ahead of Kenyan, US-based Saina in 2:31:51.
