Organisers of the annual Eldoret City marathon have agone digital after acquiring electronic timing.
The third edition of the race, which will be held on 11th April in Eldoret will not be digitized to curb cheating.
Former world half marathon champion Moses Tanui, who spoke during the cheque presentation where 25.9 million shillings was raised, said that the acquisition of electronic timing can now give an opportunity to foreign athletes to compete.
“Today am happy to announce the acquisition of electronic timing to meet the international standards,” said Tanui.
This was the second big announcement by Tanui after in January, he announced that the race had been recognized by Abott World Marathon Majors (WMM) series.
“We have managed to get electronic timing through Golazo Sports and this year the marathon will be international as I said earlier on. We expect foreign athletes like Ethiopia and the whole of East Africa community,” explained Tanui.
“For now, we already have the electronic watch for the race waiting for the race to take off. It is expensive to have such running numbers because we have to pay for the bib numbers and technical who will be organizing electronic results.
