Eldoret City marathons invites 2022 winners for prize giving

Organizers of the annual Eldoret City marathon have welcomed all 2022 winners for their prize giving ceremony.

Today, race organizer Moses Tanui said that the long wait for cash payment has come to an end after waiting for almost a year after the race was held last year April.

“I want to tell athletes that as an athlete it was not my wish to delay payments. It was a technical error and I know what has been going on kindly understand us,” said the former world 10,000m champion.

He stated that Eldoret, being the home and hub of champions, they started the marathon not for the elite athletes but considered those athletes that have been training for many years without competing outside Kenya and many athletes have benefited by winning in major marathons.

“I know we have been branded but I don’t mind because I work for the youth of this country and that is my vision that the young athletes should be tapped from this marathon,” he added.

On sanctioned athletes, he hesitated to give an outright response, calling on Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) to shed more light,” he said.

“For the sanctioned athletes, we need to confirm either they will be paid or not. We shall confirm with ADAK and the names that have been sanctioned. We shall send our prize list and usually when you have been sanctioned, they have to prove then later receive their money but for that I will ask ADAK to provide more information,” he said.
