With his vision set on defending East, Central and Southern Africa (ECASA) Scrabble title next month in Livingston, Zambia, Patrick Gitonga Nderitu produced a superlative performance to lift the Eldoret Scrabble Open Championships, the 3rd leg of Kenya Scrabble Championships in Eldorad today.
Nderitu will be defending his ECASA title in next month’s championships Livingstone, Zambia.

Leading in the two day event, Nderitu was victorious after dropping only 3 points over 18 rounds averaging 473 a game to finish on 15 +1897.
He said that he has been training well that is why he won with three matches to end.

“I have mastered the vocabularies, which is good for me. I have to play better come next match. As part of our preparations, we will play one masters tournament within this month in Nairobi before heading Namibia as part of sharpening our skills,” said Gitonga.
Nderitu beat Top Seed Allan Oyende of Nairobi to second with two points back (13 +745) as Bungoma County’s Mackton Wafula came third on 12 +524
Tom Mboya from Nairobi won in the open division over Kenya Commercial Banks (KCB) Metric Mukhalasie 450-358 in the final round to clinch the title on 14 +1206 to Metric’s 13 +1187 and University of Eldoret captain Kipruto Tarus was a credible third
Mboya also had the highest single word score of 203 with FROWNERS in round 17 on his way to the highest individual score of 648.
Nairobi’s Muema Muumbi combined with Mombasa’s Hillary Busienei for the highest combined game score of 1109.
