Eldowas triumph over Mfalme for Linda Maji tournament title

National Super league Division  2 Zone B side Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (Eldowas) defeated Mfalme FC to be crowned the inaugural Linda Maji Mtaani Tournament that came to a close on Monday evening at the Bishop Delany High school grounds in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The three day tournament meant to educate locals on the importance of stealing water and irregular connections as well as metre tempering brought together 20 teams who battled for top honours with the champions walking home with kshs 30,000. Kshs 20,000 for the second finisher and 1,500 for third winner in third order.

Eldowas’ Collins Otieno bagged a brace in the 3-0 win in their own tournament as Erick Okasibe scored the other for the title, with hopes of defending the title next year.

Otieno opened the scoring in the 6th minute before hitting a brace in the 54th minute with Okasiba’s goal in between when he hit the target in the 46th minute.

The action parked final attended by Eldowas Managing Director Peter Biwott and Mfalme sponsore Evans Cheruiyot, Otieno capitalized on the defense lapse to slot in the opener for a 1-0 lead into break.

Receiving a cross from the left wing, Okasiba’s right foot shot, with two minutes on the second half whistle gave the champions the lead.

Shanguli Kipkorir failed to half the score when his penalty shot was fired wide when Eldowas defender handled the ball into the box.

Biwott said they used the tournament to sensitize the public to be more vigilant and report Illegal water connections and vandalism.

He said people want to steal water which is against human rights. “Let’s not deny others water by illegally connecting pipelines, we urge the public to report such incidents to us,” Said Biwott.

Eldowas coach Lawrence Mwami said the win was well planned, with many doubting how they managed to reach the finals.

“As a coach, I always prepare a team according to the game. I have a tournament team as well as a league team. With this, you can manage to play well in all areas,” said Mwami.
