Emerging Stars to open CECAFA tourney against Djibouti

Emerging Stars, the national under 23 team, will open their pool C match against Djibouti at the Cecafa Under-23 soccer tournament that kicks off in Ethiopia on Wednesday.

The Stanley Okumbi coached side are in pool C alongside champions Uganda, Djibouti and South Sudan as Kenya will be seeking to win the title they last lost to Uganda.

Kenya will open their account against Djibouti on July 19 and then face South Sudan on July 22.

Champions Uganda lead pool A, Tanzania and DR Congo, while Group ‘B’ has hosts Ethiopia, Burundi and Eritrea.

The top teams in each of the three groups will proceed to the tournament’s semi-finals, alongside the best-placed runners-up.

In the semis, Group ‘A’ winners will face off with best runners-up as Group ‘B’ winners take on pool C winners.

Third place playoff and the final will be held on July 30.
