Olympic champions Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Beatrice Chebet were named the Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA) held this evening at the KICC, Nairobi.
Making his debut at the Olympic Games in Paris, France last year, Wanyonyi won the 800m gold ahead of Canadian Marco Arop becoming the only man to win gold for the country at the championships.
He edged out Ronald Kwemoi and Benson Kipruto for the top positons after coming second and third respectively.
Chebet, who won double gold at the Paris event won the women’s crown ahead of three time Olympic Games 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon Chepngetich and Boston marathon winner Hellen Obiri for the title.
