Rift Valley Secondary Schools Sports Association (RVSSSA) chairman Kipchumba Maiyo has predicted a fierce challenge ahead of next week’s term one school games to be hosted at St. Patrick’s High School Iten and Tambach Teachers Training College in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Maiyo, who was re-elected in office last year said the championships are far much competitive compared to the national championships.
“With 14 counties competing to get one ticket for nationals is challenging. The championships are far much better than national that has only four regions,” said Maiyo, the principal of Kapsabet Boys High School in Nandi County.
He added that the championships can be equated to the East Africa Secondary school games because the teams are so many.
“We have prepared the teams well ahead of the championships. With such big number of teams, you need proper planning or you perish,” added Maiyo.
According to RVSSSA secretary Kirwa Koech, athletics will be staged at Tambach Teachers Training College as well as handball and hockey while Iten will be staging Rugby15s and 7s, swimming among others.
