Father Kabiruri swing into Nova Schools victory

Father Francis Kabiruri carded 70 points nett to win the Nova Pioneer Schools golf tournament played today on par 73 Kitale golf course.

Playing handicap 20, the Catholic father fired 90 gross with 47 and 43 in each nine for 70 nett to claim the series title.

After having a morning mass at his church on Saturday, Kabiruri played a provisional ball in the second hole par four after losing in the opening hole par 5.

“When I finished conducting the mass, I went straight to the tee box and the golfers I was to play with failed to come and I was given other two who are great golfers, hence coming with the best score. 

He said he managed a bogey in the 15th hole par 3, which is the most difficult hole ever. He started with a par in 10th, bogeyed on 11th, recovered with a par on 12th and 13th before dropping one in 14th, 15th, 16th and dropped 3 in  18th for a total of 43 gross.

“When I managed a bogey in 15th, I knew I had done well. That is the most difficult hole despite being par 3,” added Kabiruri.

Second position went to Ali Babuh on a score of 72 nett after firing 87 gross while Ben Cheruiyot completed the podium with a score of 73 Nett.

Playing off handicap 2, Club’s top golfer Philip Shiharsy was awarded the lowest gross with 75 ahead of Eliud Weche.

Former Eldoret lady captain Esther Chumo won the longest drive lady as Joshua Ang’lei was the men’s winner while nearest to the pin prize went to Zack Nderitu.

Scoring 36 and 34 points, Ng’elel and Nick Mwai were first and second nine winners respectively.
