Few changes on Sirikwa Classic Course

A few changes have been made on the second edition Sirikwa Classic formerly Agnes Tirop Memorial World Athletics Cross country Tour in Eldoret set for February 4th at the Lobo Village in Kapseret, Uasin Gishu County.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) chairman Ibrahim Kipkemboi Hussein, who is also the technical director, said that this year’s course will not have mud as it was last year.

“This year, we removed jumps and mud from the course but included a few hurdles like that of steeplechase just to give the race some excitement and make it interesting,” said Hussein.

“As much as the crowds were happy when athletes toiled in the mud and water, it posed danger to their career hence removing such burdens to athletes. But we had to add more challenges of hurdles. The athletes will have to jump some hurdles and other obstacles that we may think are good and friendly to athletes,” said Hussein.

With about ten days to go, Hussein said that he hopes the change of the name will live up the expectations after hosting a successful event last year.

“By acting on athletes’ feedback we received, they said that they are not very comfortable with the mud so we have something like steeplechase and water jumps. We maintain the artificial hills, some logs and incorporate some tents. We have very big tents where athletes will be running through and on these tents we shall have spectators from each side of the tents also music, coaches, soft drinks and food. It will be very interesting. It will be a very entertaining finish area,” said Hussein
