Focused Oyende wins Scrabble Kenya tournament in Bungoma

 Allan Oyende recovered from two opening loss to win the third leg of National Scrabble Kenya tournament that came to an end today in Bungoma.

Focusing to retain the East, Central and Southern Africa Scrabble Association (ECASA) Oyende won the title in the gibsonized round before heading into the 18th and final round to carry the title with 13 wins with a spread of +1494.

“It wasn’t easy but I did my best. I just have to keep putting in the work and see how it goes.” the champ said with a smile.

Day one leader and host Bernard Koyyoko bagged 12 wins and a spread of +500 to finish second as Joash Manyasa, got bronze with 11 wins +593 Fourth place went to Patrick Litunya from Machakos County who got 11 points +503 while Scrabble Kenya’s chairman Bernard Amuke the best 5 players with 11 wins +355

In the Intermediate division, Tom Mboya won gold with 2 rounds to spare to finish with 16 wins. Second place went to Saul Alukhaba who won 12 games while Daniel Were bagged bronze and the best student title.

Fourth place went to Hillary Chepkwony from Kisumu County while Frederick Gitagia closed the podium.

Oyende also bagged a total of 630 against Dan Musuku.

Most improved rating went to Tom Mboya with +91 while the best female award went to Wenwa Akinyi

The next national tournament will be hosted in Olkaria in April.

Day 1 had seen hosts Bernard Koyyoko and Bernard Amuke taking top spots ahead of favourite Allan Oyende. In the Intermediate division, Daniel Were and Tom Mboya had the overnight lead.
