Football crisis is looming in Uasin Gishu branch after two groups were ‘elected’ to run the sport, with each group claiming to be the bonafide officials.
The two factions led by Peter Chesang in team blue that supported the reelection of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa and another led by current chairman Paul Tororei, who was, last Saturday voted as the chairman in the elections conducted by Sports Registrar Rose Wasike.
Wasike led sports clerks Robert Muriithi ang Ambrose Chirchir. Commissioners present were Japson Gitong, commissioner for sports and Richard Ombeba assistant Commissioner for Sports.
Tororei said they have the mandate to run football in the county since they have met Sports Action requirements and have the certificate from Spprts Registrar as Uasin Gishu Football Association.
“According to Sports Act, we have powers and Authority to run football in the county. I know it will bring commontion with other group but that will not bother us much,” said Tororei.
He added that Uasin Gishu is the first county to conduct elections under Sports Act. Tororei won the chriaman’s post with 17 votes against Daniel Ngetich’s 5, Edwin Limo won secretary post with 19 votes against Aggrey Muhanji’s 3, treasuer’s post went to David Simiyu with 21 against Joan limo’s 1 while Charity Wangoma and Moses Kibet were women and Youth represented respectively.
Chesang was elected unopposed in the last months repeat election after defeating his former boss Tororei in the first round of elections that were latter nullified by Sports Dispute Tribal (SDT). Chesang served as Tororei’s vice last term.
Chesang said the opposing group is creating anarchy in football by burring the sport that is on its death bed in the county.
“In the first incident when we heard that registrar of sports was to conduct elations, we talk it as a rumour but it came to pass. We knew elections were over but this was something that we never expected,” said Chesang.
He added that they did elections last year, which they lost, regrouped and went ahead to conduct elections in secrecy yet they are affiliates of FKF.
“I don’t k now the kind of affiliation with FKF they claim to be yet they are killing the game secretly. They lost in elections and I don’t know what they are fighting for. I don’t know what there problem is. I have so many questions that remain unanswered,” said Chesang.
Chesang is deputized by Solomon Tanui, Secretary is Oliver Kiptoo, and Jared Mageto hosts the treasurer’s post while Rachel Mafuta and Isaiah Kofuna are Women and Youth representatives respectively.
