The 2021 World Under 20 3,000m champion Teresia Muthoni Gateri and double Africa race walk champion Samuel Gathimba were the winners of the second leg of Athletics Kenya track and field weekend meet at the Thika stadium.
In the two day event that started today and ending tomorrow, Gateri won the 1,500m title 4:24.3 followed by Vivian Chebet in 4:24.5 with Celestine Biwott closing the podium in a time of 4:27.1.
In the 3,000m steeplechase women final, Celestine Jepkosgei Biwott won the title at 10:16.3 followed by Dorothy Jepkoech Kimutai at 11:00.4 as Ann Gathoni Ndungu sealing the podium at 11:02.2.
Sylvia Jerono Kemboi and Samuel Kireri Gathimba were the winners in the women and men’s 10,000m race walk at the same stadium.
Kemboi won in 49:56.7 followed by Merciline Wanjala Nakhumicha at 50:34.9 with Naum Jepkirui coming third at 51:34.1.
Experienced Gathimba won in 41:44.7 followed by former world under 20 champion Heristone Wanyonyi Wafula at 42:40.6 with Stephen Kihu Ndangili completing the podium in 42:55.2.
In High jump women, Faith Kipsang Jepkemboi was victorious after clearing 1.68m ahead of Maureen Nanjala Wafula when she jumped 1.61m.
