2010 Africa 5,000m silver medalist Vincent Yator has a reason to thank God after saving his life on the fateful night of Monday at Kikopey along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
Speaking exclusively on Dailysport.co.ke at Reale Hospital at Reale Hospital in Eldoret, the athlete said God saved him from serious injury or worse during the road crash where his running mate Francis Kiplagat died on the spot.

“I must say God saved me from the rest. Imagine me living today is through his mercy and grace,” said Yator as his wife Emmy Yator and coach Joseph Cheromei kept him company.
The Iten based distance runner was in the accompany of Francis Kiplagat who and other colleague when their vehicle was involved in the tragic crash that has plunged the athletics fraternity into mourning.
The grisly accident claimed five lives with six among them Yator nursing injuries.
The Nairobi 2010 silver medalist winner was fortunate to sustain minor injuries and he is looking forward to return to action soon as he mourns his departed colleague.
“Am now ok just a few injuries but I will be very ok soon. I did not pick serious injuries as other people are saying,” added Yator.
The athletes had gone to Nairobi to apply for visas as they were planning to compete on some of the European races.
“For me I was going to compete at the Paris Half marathon. That is why I went to Nairobi but my other friends I really don’t know the races they were going to compete,” concluded Yator.
