The Netherlands Sifan Hassan edged out defending champion Ruth Chepngetich to win the Chicago marathon title held today in the USA.
Hassan won the race in 2:13.44 to set a new course record that was held by Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei in 2019 when she set the women’s mixed marathon world record of 2;14.04. The world record was last month broken by Ethiopian Tigist Assefa at the Berlin marathon in Germany at 2:11.52.
Chepngetich came second after timing 2:15.37 as Ethiopian Megertu Alemu completed the podium at 2:17.19 with former world half marathon record holder and New York City marathon champion Joyciline Jepkosgei coming 4th at 2:17.23.
