Highway and Wiyeta storm into soccer finals of School championships in Tanzania

Highway and Wiyeta Secondary Schools have qualified to play at the finals at the ongoing Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games in Arusha Tanzania.

The Kenyan Highway will be facing off with Uganda’s Kibuli at the final in boys’ football following their victory in the semifinals.

This will be the second time the two schools are meeting at the games after they faced off in the pool matches. Highway beat multiple champions St Mary’s Kitende of Uganda with a solitary goal scored by Humphrey Aroko in the 49th minute to seal the victory while Kibuli were the 4-3 winners against compatriots Buddo in post-match penalties.

At the nationals, Highway lost to Ebwali 1-0.

This is the first time a Kenyan side is reaching the final since 2016 when Barding High School won the title after beating Kitende 1-0 in the final at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret.

In girls’ final, Kenya champions Wiyeta will be seeking their second title when they take on Noa Girls  at the finals.

Wiyeta beat compatriots Dagoretti Mixed 3-0 with goals from Edna Wanda, Elizabeth Ochaka and Lavendar Akinyi.

Wiyeta won the title in 2017 in Gulu after Noa beat defending champions Kawempe Muslim Secondary School 2-1.
