Home-boy Oyende top Kisii National Scrabble Kenya championships

Grand Master Allan Oyende maintained his cool to record victory at the Kisii National Scrabble Championships title.

Oyende, who managed top three in day one, won all his day two matches to claim the title with 14 wins and 4 losses.

Recording 100% wins in day two, Oyende said that playing at ‘home’ was a good thing as part of gaining skills ahead of major international events.

“This is home and I could not manage to lose at home. Above all, today I had a good day, wining all my matches to grand me victory,” said Oyende.

After ending day one in 4th position, behind leader Martins Mutahi, Raphael Oduor and Onani Magwanga, Oyende came back guns blazing, setting up opponents and winning easily.

After Kisii, the top team will be heading for the Triumvirate, the Ultimate team Scrabble showdown, the most anticipated President’s Cup set for August 14th to 17th in Nairobi.

The cup consists of 30 players, placed in five pools with each pool consisting of five players and a team of three players competing against each other.
