Homeboyz claims sevens series title

After winning four out of six national sevens rugby series across the country, Homeboyz were crowned the champions of the series in today’s last leg of Christie sevens at RFUEA Ground.

The win puts their main challenger Mwamba who lost 24- 12 to South Africa’s Blue Bulls and TUK in the Cup quarters and needed to win Christie 7s and pray Homeboyz lose at the cup quarters to win the national title, but their plans fell a cropper.

Homeboyz reached the cup semifinal with a 29-5 win over Mean Machine. The result also saw them claim their second national title after their exploits in 2016.

By dropping to 5th place semis, Mwamba who started Christie’s with 92 points, can only earn a maximum of 13 points to hit 105 point mark meaning they will not catch Homeboyz who arrived at Christie’s with 100 points.

It got worse for Kulabu as they went down 24-5 to KCB in the fifth place semi-finals.

KCB scored a try from kickoff, Davis Chenge going over to put the bankers 5-0 up. This would prove to be the only of the first half. Jeff Okwach doubled the bankers lead, scoring off a quickly taken penalty with Ahmed Shaban converting for a 12-0 lead.

Everything was going KCB’s way in terms of possession and territory and it inevitable that they would score a third try, Andrew Amonde beating his defenders to score for a 17-0 lead.

Samuel Asati soon added to this tally, his converted try putting KCB 24-0 up and with it a berth in the fifth place final.
