Houston Marathon: Helah Kiprop fires warning shots

Kenyan runners will be taking on Ethiopian Tigist Tufa in Sunday’s Houston Half marathon in the USA.

Led by former world marathon silver medalist Helah Kiprop, Kenyan contingent that includes course record holder Mary Wacera (66:29), Lucy Kabuu, Edith Chelimo, Eunice Chumba Ethiopian Tigist Tufa, Ruti Aga and Caroline Chepkoech.

With defending champion Veronica Nyarua (67:58) heading for the marathon on the same day, the title is quite open for any runner to take over.

Kiprop, who won the 2016 Tokyo marathon title said that her target is to get good results as part of her preparations for February 25th Tokyo race.

“This race I will use it prepare for Tokyo marathon next month and I will also gauge myself after coming from a festive season,” said the former Berlin half marathon champion.

With her experience on road races, Kiprop said it will be her time to shine come Sunday.

“I have prepared well for the event and nothing short of winning such a race will be on my way,” added the former Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) half marathon champion.

She failed to defend her 2016 Tokyo title last year that was won by Sarah Chepchirchir and wants to restore her ‘dignity’.
