Driving 1992 Model Range Rover Alfayo Khasiani Hudson, driving was the overall winner of the second edition of Nandi 4×4 Conservation Challenge held over the weekend.
The Uasin Gishu based driver won the title after other top teams like Bungoma, Nandi, Nyandarua among others in Tulon forest, Nandi County.
Hudson navigated through the tough terrain with the standard motors category where the challenge went down in style as participants from various counties came to showcase their rallying skills.
Drivers and participants of the event said that this year’s Nandi 4 by 4 challenge was probably the toughest in the circuit series.
Driving in his home county, Basil Maiyo in a Land cruiser 80 series came was in second place while Eston Keya also from Uasin Gishu with Land Rover 110 series sealed 3rd position.
In the modified cars category, Marnish Herai representing team Wazimu from Nairobi emerged victorious after others pulled out of the competition from initial stages.
Last year’s defending champion Marvin Wamalwa driving 1976 land Rover 109 series pulled out of the competition over mechanical problems.
The overall intention of the challenge is to conserve environment through tree planting. The event culminated into planting of 10,000 tree seedlings at the famous Chebarbar water source.
Nandi county lands and environment executive member Jacob Tanui lauded the event adding that it will help raise the forest cover.
