IAAF Athlete of the Year Award: Hellen Obiri, Elijah Manangoi out of finalists

Kenyans Hellen Obiri and Elijah Manangoi have missed to make a cut in this year’s final list of IAAF World Athletics Awards for the 2017 IAAF World Athlete of the Year.

The two IAAF World champions gold medalist in 5,000m and 1,500m respectively failed to make it to the final list following the online voting process and  IAAF released the names with 18 days remaining for the Gala award on 24^th November in Monaco.

Despite Manangoi leading in facebook votes, he will not be on the final list where there were three ways of voting. The IAAF Council and Family voted through email, fans voted through online through social media.

1. Mutaz Essa Barshim (QAT)
2. Mo Farah (GBR)
3. Wayde Van Nikekerk (RSA)

Women

1. Almaz Ayana (ETH)
2. Ekaterini Stefanidi (GRE)
3. Nafissatou Thiam (BEL)
