I&M Bank Golf: Philip Meli claims the title

PHILIP Meli carded 45 stable ford points to win this year’s I&M Bank golf tournament held on Saturday at Eldoret golf club.

Meli shot a birdie on hole par five hole nine to boost is front nine points to 23. He started with back to back bogeys on par 5 and par 3 holes 1 and 2 before going down to double bogey on proceeding par four, added back to back bogeys and recovered on hole 7 par three with a par.

In the back nine, he shot three pars in succession on holes 13, 14 and 15, sinking triple bogey on 16 and bogeys in the last 17 and 18 for a total of 22 points.

The media personality got his handicap two months ago and he played on handicap 24, and moved four steps up to 21.

Dr. Hellen Yego was the second finisher with 41 points beating Sunjay Dodia with a single shot while James Chirchir lost to Dodia on count back with 40 points.

Young golfer Kate Navisino won the best markers prize as she climbed to the podium to receive her handicap.

Nilesh Aggarwal was the Gross winner with eleven over 82 as Kamal Manek won the first nine with 22 points as lady captain Linah Shah was the second nine winner with the similar score.

Former Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) director John Kibosia was the senior winner with 39 points, David Kimutai taking home nearest to the pin prize on hole 16 as former captain Anand Lakhani and Moni Sagoo won the longest drive men and women respectively.
