In-form Mburu and Shikuku secure second gold medals at World Masters

Fresh from winning the 10km Road race title, Kenya’s Kenneth Mburu Mung’ara won the second gold in the cross country at the ongoing World Athletics masters championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The action at the City Park, saw Mburu claim the 8km cross country title after cutting the tape in 25:39 to ahead of Victor Ramon Martinez of Spain with silver as Laust Bengtsen of Denmark settled for bronze.

At the same time, Mburu had silver in the 5,000m.

Team Kenya captain Eric Sikuku also gave a resounding show by winning the men’s 5km race walk at the Bjorlanda Stadium on Monday evening.

Regina Malai Mulatia of  Kenya so her efforts were rewarded after grabbing a bronze medal in women’s long jump.

Kenya has now amassed 21 medals, which includes seven gold medals, nine silvers and five bronze medals.

The World Masters Athletics Championship, which began on August 13, will take a break tomorrow.
