County government of Uasin Gishu has proposed to the national government to build another stadium at Yamumbi in the outskirts of Eldoret Town.
Led by deputy governor Daniel Chemno, the county government said they can build a modern facility to tap talents and host international events.
Yamumbi, located two kilometres from Eldoret Town lies between Kenya Prison Kenya and Kenya Forest Service land.
Chemno said both governments can forge the way forward to ensure that they build a good facility.
While addressing sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa on his visit in the north rift, inspecting various sporting facilities like Kipchoge keino stadium and Kamariny stadium in Eldoret and Iten, Chemno said the land can be of good use by building a stadium.
“We have committed 26 acres of land to build the new facility. We are proposing to the national government that as they prepare to build a bigger stadium to promote sports in this county, they can have a piece of land here that is free from compensation. We are hearing other places that they are looking for land, which can be compensated, with us here, it is for free. For us here we have land and we just want them to take land and build the stadium,” said Chemno.
The proposed land borders the Kenya Prison and Kenya Forest Service with Chemno insisting that being government to government entity there will be no bigger problem in constructing the facility..
“It is an easy task for government to acquire necessary documents. We are here to show the land knowing that a kilometre from here there is a tarmac road suitable for a stadium construction because of road accessibility network that has developed the area,” added Chemno.
