Anti-Doping crusaders will be converging in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County this Friday for the World Anti-Doping Day at Iten Grounds.
Christened Home of Champions due to its multiple world renown athletes, from track to the marathons, Iten will play host to various stakeholders to discuss various topics related to doping menace across the country.
According to organisers led by Athletics Kenya North Rift Public Relations officer Boniface Tiren, Chairman Stephen Lai amonh others, they will be hosting the first ever anti-doping seminar, which is on the Athletics Kenya calendar.
“We have invited top athletes, coaches and managers to grace the occasion as part of ending the vice which has cropped into the country with many athletes being banned from competitions,” said Tiren.
He added that they are expecting top A.K officials, IAAF and locals leaders to discuss the serious matter affecting Kenyan runners globally.
In 2018, many athletes have been banned from competitions like reigning Athens marathon champion Samuel Kalalei, multiple world champion Asbel Kiprop, former Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion Lucy kabuu, Africa 400m silver medalists Boniface Mweresa and former world under 20 800m champion Kipyegon Bett.
“This issue has put Kenya in a wrong perception but we want to end such, prove to the world that Kenyan athletes run clean except a few,” said Tiren.
