Olympic Games 5,000m runner Jacob Kiplimo broke Kibiwott Kandie’s half marathon world record in today’s Lisbon Half Marathon.
The Ugandan broke the world record to 57:31, lowering Kandie’s Valencia marathon time head of Ethiopia’s Esa Huseyidin Mohamed finished second in 59:39, just ahead of compatriot Gerba Beyata Dibaba, who was given the same time for third place. The top nine men all finished inside 60 minutes.
The women’s race was a close affair as Ethiopia’s Tsehay Gemechu won in 1:06:06 from Kenya’s Daisy Cherotich (1:06:15) and Joyce Chepkemoi (1:06:19).
