Two time London marathon champion Priscah Jeptoo and Asbel Kiprop will lead other 172 elite athletes who have registered for the 19th edition of Standard Chartered Nairobi marathon.
The Sunday event will also see top athletes competing of the crown with Jeptoo, the 2013 New York City Marathon champion leading reigning HOKA Ravenna City of Art Marathon champion Shyline Jepkorir, among others.
Kiprop will headline the men’s race as well as Ezra Tanui and Bravin Kiprop.
Local Organising Committee led by chairman Peter Gitau said that athletes from Tanzania and Uganda are expectedto compete for the crown.
“We are very excited that the race has attracted runners from within and outside the country. We are hoping more will join,” Gitau.
Gitau added that they are working with the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya to ensure the results are out within two months in order to avoid delays.
“Prize giving is subject to the results of the tests. We shall work with ADAK to avoid late payment,” he said, adding that they will ensure the athletes run clean.
